Dr. Jones was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and grew up in small towns in Georgia and Florida. In high school, he was student conductor of the band and played the trombone as a solo artist. He attended the University of Florida, graduating with a biology degree in 1972. He went on to earn a medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama. In 1979, Dr. Jones entered the U.S. Air force, serving four years as a Flight Surgeon in Guam and Charleston. He is a pilot who is instrument rated. Dr. Jones completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham in 1983. In 1986, Dr. Jones moved to Macon to assume Dr. John O. Martin’s ophthalmology practice. He and his wife Jenny, who is a Vision Teacher at Georgia Academy for the Blind, have five children and 6 grandchildren. Dr. Jones enjoys spending time with his family, church, flying and good music.
